Future of the Warriors Manga

Postby Wavestripe » Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:11 pm

I didn't know if anyone said this yet, but Vicky told us on tour that there will be no more due to Tokyopop going out
I'm actually surprised since they still churned out the other 2 of SkyClan
But overall, it's a wrap guys

I suppose they weren't going to leave the series halfway completed, so that's why they printed the other two. Yeah, the Erin's Message at the start of the last volume sounded like an ending, with the whole "I hope you've enjoyed the stories" and everything. I'm okay with it ending. We've had lots of them.

I would have loved to see one about Crowfeather though
I don't know why, I'm just so intrigued by his character and what drove his motives

that's a shame, i guess. but the mangas weren't really that great to begin with, so, yeah, i'm not grieving too much here.

Although I'll admit I haven't bought or read any of the mangas since the Graystripe trilogy, I'm really sad to hear there won't be any more of them. They tend to cover really interesting storylines, ones that are too short for a super edition and don't quite fit anywhere else.

Well, at least the SkyClan trilogy is finished and that the Seekers trilogy will soon be finished (apparently, there'll still be a Lusa manga).

I'm actually rather glad that, like the field-guides, that the mangas are done. Less commercialization, the better. They were neat reads and all, but I still despise how the Erin Hunter books are all for the money dear boy ever since Starlight (Dawn was supposed to be the last book. I wish it was). I mean, in my eyes, the series has ran its course ever since NP #3.

But, I still feel very sorry for the people of Tokyo Pop. Ugh, can you imagine losing a job? Hope they find new jobs soon.

I am not that suprised. Of course they would want to finish the SkyClan manga since they printed the first one already, but with Tokyopop gone, it's seems perfectly natural for HarperCollins not to want to continue the endevour themselves. Besides, I don't think there were that many intresting angles left anyway. The Ravenpaw trilogy was actullay supposed to be the last Warriors manga trilogy, but I guess Vicky changed her mind after SkyClan's Destiny. This seems like a natural stopping point for the Warrior mangas, and it's nice to see HarperCollins respecting that for once.

I really don't understand this viewpoint. Dawn left a lot of things hanging - Hawkfrost (and to a lesser extent Brambleclaw and Mothwing)'s loyalties as well as the ability of the Clans to survive in the home they'd reached, and let's not forget Graystripe and the fact that ThunderClan had no active deputy. The Last Hope did an iffy job of wrapping things up as well, but I think it did a significantly better job than Dawn did, what with the leader and deputy being set in stone (unlike Dawn with Graystripe), all the traitors having been revealed and rid of, Cinder/Lion and Squirrel/Bramble being resolved and the whole Leaf/Crow/Jay/Holly/Lion/Breeze tangle being resolved. The Darkest Hour probably did the best job of wrapping things up but nonetheless the series ending at Dawn would have left so many loose ends and so much that could have been written (the Clans making their new home? Hawkfrost's true loyalties? Graystripe?) that it wouldn't have satisfied very many people.

Hate to go off topic but I figured I'd address this, just cause I'm trying to figure out where that statement comes from.

I know Dawn left a lot of things hanging. But, they could've always have written a super-edition to wrap it all up.

I think they would have wrapped things up better in Dawn if they hadn't decided to turn it into six books; they knew they had more coming. Sure, the whole thing about the new territories would have been left hanging, and Graystripe too I guess, but I think they said the whole Brambleclaw/Hawkfrost/Tigerstar thing came after it was changed to six books. I think they made the right choice at least in us seeing the Clans in their new home, but if it were me, I'd have wrapped things up at the end of Sunset; I like wrapped-up endings. They knew by the time they were writing it, though, that there would be a third series, so they intentionally left stuff open.
